Great rooms, sometimes known as family rooms or dens, may be used for visiting with neighbors and friends, watching movies and spending family time. The great room also provides extra opportunity for your creative side to show through; a variety of great room colors are available to turn the room into an even more inviting and useful spot in the house. One example of great room colors is dark colors. Great rooms accommodate dark colors well. You can use an earth-toned palette to create a warm, serene environment, or a jewel-toned palette for drama. If your great room is rectangular, paint the longer walls a dark color and keep the shorter walls in the lighter range. This will balance the room, and bring it back to more of a square proportion. To keep the room from appearing drab, add touches of bright color in front of the dark color for contrast.
